Description:
Japanese Type 90 Steel Helmet with Liner, This steel helmet has a dark mustard brown paint finish with four vent holes around the top. The star emblem has been lost from the front of the helmet and the paint exhibits some light flaking exposing steel toning to dark brown patina. The lining is leather with green cotton adjustable straps; the leather band that forms the rim exhibits a relatively clean separation on the left side and the left-side chinstrap has been replaced with a length of black canvas. The replacement strap is lightly frayed, appears to be of similar
age to the rest of the helmet and I believe to be a period field repair. Overall the liner rates good, exhibiting light scuffing, spots of ocher staining on the straps and little to no flaking or loss of the leather. The helmet has two Japanese stamp marks and the rim has a Japanese painted marking, one helmet pad also has two Japanese characteristics stamped on it but these are hard to make out.  Overall as described and photographed a very good WWII specimen from the Pacific theater.  Inv. : # J 4260
