Description: The 7400, likes its predecessor the 742, was one of the most popular semi-auto rifles for hunting for a long time before the AR-10 started to pick up in popularity. This one appears to have seen little use. Overall finish is roughly 98 percent. The stock has a nice dark wood finish with checkering. The forearm is similar, but it should be noted that it is extra wide at the rear and tapers forward compared to the uniform width forearms usually seen on the 742. The rifle is fitted with a Bushnell Sportsman 4-12x40mm scope. To make room for the scope the rear sight has been removed but it still comes with the gun in a small plastic bag. Please see the available pictures. The barrel is 22 inches long. The date code on the barrel indicates this 7400 was produced in April of 1989. Chambered for the near universal .30-06, this rifle would be affective for use against a wide variety of game ranging from varmints to large game. Available bullets for the .30-06 range from light weight 110gr bullets for varmints, up to 220gr bullets for heavy game animals. The Models 742 and 7400 were designed to be simple, semi-automatic side-eject rifles (as opposed to top ejection) that could be used anywhere in the United States and be able to function regardless of conditions. By making the design eject to the side rather than upward like the M14, any scope could be mounted without fear of ejected brass banging up the scope. Given the .30-06’s wide range of applications, combining the 7400 with this cartridge make for a very effective hunting combination. The rifle comes with the standard 4-round magazine; however, Triple K makes extended 10-round magazines for those looking for a little more firepower. These fit any of the Remington semi-auto/pump-rifles. Be advised, there are two magazine lengths: one for .308-length cartridges and the other for .30-06-length cartridges. I have personal experience with the Model 7600, the pump action version of the 7400 and chambered for the .35 Whelen round. These guns are fun to shoot, and they make effective hunting rifles. If you desire a reliable hunting rifle in a multi-purpose caliber, a Remington 7400 in .30-06 is an excellent choice. SOLD Manufacturer: Remington Arms Co.
