Description:
This is a pre-64 Winchester lever action model 88 chambered for the 308 caliber cartridge. The serial number 85336, indicates a manufacture date of 1958. This gun features a beautiful walnut stock, with high figure and cut checkering, rather then the press stamped basket weave used on post 1964 guns. I beleive the stock has been refinished to a nice medium color, with excellent sharp checkering. The butt plate doesn't fit perfect, but should not be considered a deterrent, as it still looks great, but thought it was worth mentioning. The metal surfaces are carrying 98% of their original blue, with a few marks near the rear scope base mounting holes, and carry wear to the magazine. All markings on the 22" barrel are sharp and crisp, including the proof marks. The sight package has been updated with a LYMAN 66 W 88 peep at the rear, a midrange blank, and it has the original hood on the front sight. The bore is excellent, and the gun functions as it should, showing little wear to the lever area. The sling lugs are factory installed, and the gun comes with one magazine.
