Description:
Introduced in 1948 the Remington Model 722 was the short action version of the Model 721, and is one of the strongest actions Remington ever designed.  It quickly earned a reputation for being very well made and reliable, and was a commercial success for the firm. The Model 722 was offered in 7 different calibers and remained in production until 1962, at which point it was dropped in favor of the Remington Model 700.  This particular example was made in 1953 and is chambered in the .222 Remington cartridge.  It is a very nice rifle in very good condition overall.  Based off of what we can see, it has most certainly has been carried afield more than actually fired.  The original factory blue finish is very attractive with an handsome and consistent "aged" patina on all of the metal parts.  There is very little actual mechanical finish wear on most of the rifle, with the most wear showing on the floorplate and triggerguard (the natural carry point if not slung on your shoulder)  The bore is excellent in this Remington, with sharp rifling throughout the barrel and no visible pitting, erosion, or imperfections.  The original stock is in very good condition overall, free from ay cracks, chips, major damage, or repairs.  The American Walnut shows some small dings/handling marks and a little finish wear but nothing that sticks out as bad or an eyesore.  The original Remington-branded aluminum alloy factory buttplate is still in place and in good condition, perfectly fit to the stock and tight to the wood.  Someone along the way has fit a set of vintage quick-release sling swivels and an adjustable leather sling.  The controls on this Model 722 are in perfect working order, and the action is smooth and precise when worked by hand.  The bolt turns into battery perfectly, and the trigger breaks nicely with a light pull.  We have no doubt that this Remington Model 722 will shoot just as reliably and accurately as id did when it left the factory 66 years ago.  This rifle is fit with period/vintage Weaver bases and 1" inch rings, as well as a vintage Weaver Model K3 3-power scope with a standard crosshair reticle.  The steel-tube Weaver scope is in good condition and 100% operational.  The optics are clear and bright, and both the elevation and windage adjustments are in perfect working order.  If you have been looking for a classy vintage varmint rifle for your collection here is your chance to get a good one.
