Volunteer Arms Co. was a trade name of Belknap Hardware and Manufacturing, a large wholesale/retail in Louisville, KY. It operated under that name from 1907 until 1986. The Volunteer Arms Co single barrel shotguns were actually the Iver Johnson Champion model. The Champion was manufactured from c. 1909 until the mid 1970's. There was no Volunteer or Volunteer Arms Co. That is a "Trade Brand Name" used on shotguns made by Crescent Fire Arms Company of Norwich, CT (1892 to 1932), Stevens Arms & Tool Company of Chicopee Fall, MA (1916 to 1940) and in the case of the Volunteer Arms Co, Iver Johnson's Arms & Cycle Works of Fitchberg, MA (1874 to 1993). I am confident this is a 1940s or earlier gun. The overall condition of the gun is good, amount of original finish left on the metal plating is probably 85%. The wood and mechanical condition are both good. The bore is bright. LOP is approximately 14 ¾. Barrel is 31 inches and choke thought to be full. Overall length is 47 inches. Buyer pays $45 for shipping and insurance.
