Merkel 147EL 12 gauge SxS shotgun. Proof dated 1999 this fine German made boxlock shotgun has 28” barrels chambered for 3" shells and factory chokes marked VZ & ½ that measure .004” & .018”, commonly known as light skeet & light modified. On top of the barrels is a raised solid/tapered rib. The action is game scene engraved with birds on both sides and the Merkel logo on the floor plate with the rest of the frame adorned with nice scroll work. As typical the frame is a coin finish and the barrels are a deep, lustrous blue. What really sets this Merkel apart from other 147EL’s is the custom Wenig stock and beavertail forearm. Stocked as a “vintage” ready SxS for skeet or sporting clays. The gorgeous stock has a 14 3/8” LOP over a ½” Pachmayr presentation pad with 1 ½” DAC, 1 ½” drop at the monte carlo and 2 ¼” drop at the heel. This pistol grip stock is configured with a right hand palm swell and a rolled comb for a right hand shooter. Both the stock are forearm have presentation quality fine checkering with carved fleur de lis..elegant and tasteful! With the densely grained wood the gun weighs 7 lbs. 9 oz. and balances nicely between the hands. Single selective trigger, non-automatic safety, double underlug locks with cross bolt and side clips are all features of this fine gun. Cosmetically this gun is 98%. There is a small scratch behind the forearm on the left barrel just above the hinge pin and look at the left side where the stock meets the frame..the wood finish has been slightly compromised right there; otherwise this is a 99% condition gun.
