This is a lovely rifle that has about 90-92% of the original bright blue remaining, with some silvering at the muzzle and along the high and projecting edges. The barrel is maker marked at the breech: “P. WEBLEY & SON, BIRMINGHAM"; with the “Winged Bullet" trademark on the knox form. The receiver is marked simply with the retailer’s name on the retailer’s name on the left side: “R. McVITTE / TORONTO"; and with the serial number and a small number “7400" on the right. The walnut buttstock and forend are in fine condition with scattered minor handling marks and minor blemishes in the original varnish, the ramrod is freckled gray-brown along its length, and there is some further minor freckling on the knurled steel buttplate. The action is very tight and functions flawlessly. This is a splendid commercial Martini-Henry, in excellent condition, and with a rarely seen Toronto retailer’s marking.
