Description:
Sold Pending Funds / British Brass Barrel Ketland Flintlock Holster Pistol, cal. 59, with an 8" round barrel and a moderately oxidized bore. The barrel and other brass hardware have toned to a pleasant ocher patina showing scattered light dings and some moderate verdigris around the touch hole. The barrel features some light embellishments and is stamped with deeply impressed British proofs on the left side and small star motifs around the breech. The lockplate has toned to a dark brown patina showing some scattered old pitting and oxidation staining. The top jaw and its screw are replacements. The markings are a bit soft but visible with "W / KETLAND / & Co" in the center. The smooth walnut stock remains in good condition with a repaired 1 1/2" crack forward of the lock and sideplate, a repaired 4" section along the left tip both beautifully done, scattered light dings and flaking varnish. There is a clear "ET" stamp on the left stock flat. A replacement brass-tipped hickory ramrod is included and the lock seems to function well mechanically. The overall condition of this medium-sized flintlock pistol as photographed and described is good – good plus plus. Inv. : # 12-149
