Payment Types Accepted: Cashiers or Money Orders Description: In 1909, the Ford Model T had just come to market and Theodore Roosevelt was in the second term of his presidency. The Colt Model 1905, .38-cal revolver, chosen sidearm of the US marine Corps, was proving inadequate at stopping attackers in the then-ongoing Philippine Insurrection. It was reported of Marines emptying the contents of the .38 caliber revolvers into the oncoming fanatical Moro warrior - only to be fatally wounded by a stroke of his opponent's Bolo. As a result of this, the Marine Corps acquired 1,400 of the Colt New Service Model 1909 .45-cal revolvers. This big revolver chambered the .45 Long Colt Cartridge, welding greater knock down power. This particular weapon's USMC serial number is marked on the butt with No. 1058. A serial number of #26058 properly match the frame, crane and cylinder release. The condition of this weapon is good overall but certainly has that "been there, done that" look. The original remaining finish is fair to good. The barrel has lost much of its finish. The frame and cylinder maintains the majority of the weapons overall finish. The bottom of the right grip is chipped away below the checkering. The left grip is in good shape. The mechanics work just fine in double action or when the hammer is drawn. The bore has strong rifling but also exhibits some scattering of moderate pitting. There is no doubt this side arm has seen action and would enhance any Colt collector's cabinet of firearms and military history. The Colt New Service Model 1909 had a very short service life and was soon replaced by the much anticipated .45-cal semi-automatic pistol, which is one reason the weapon is so rare today.
