Description:
Attractive heavy sporter in the early wildcat 25/284, probably dates to the 60's because the 284 Winchester was introduced about 1963 and was the origional short magnum cartridge.(No belt- rebated rim) The basis then and still for a flurry of wildcatting, necking up and down, the 284 Win. This one weighs in at just under 12# (11# and 11oz) as pictured. The older Burris 6-18 x46approx scope is made in the usa and features nice clear lenses and an adjustable objective. Scope and steel rings and base likely adds about 2# so the bare rifle is under 10#. Nicely done in hi polish blue, barrel is probably 1 in 10 as it will stabilize the long 120 gr ballistic tip boat tail bullets- shoots the 90gr bthp by sierra well too. Barrel shank is 1.500 with a straight taper to .780 at the muzzle, 24" long, excellent bore. I've had it probably 10 years and shot it maybe 100 times. I got the rcbs dies and the loaded box with 8-10 rounds fired of 50. Cases are 6.5 norma, resized to .25 and look new. Maker is unknown but it appears they knew what they were doing- there is a logo on the barrel bottom, pictured, the action is glass bedded very professionally, receiver and barrel, all but about 1.5" is free floated. Loading data is the same as for the 25-06 according to various manuals. Timney adjustable trigger.
