Description:
This is a very nice very lightly-used Remington Model 7400 semi-automatic rifle chambered in .270 Winchester.  Manufactured in 1991, this Model 7400 would be a 99% like-new rifle if not for some humid storage conditions due to a leaking roof.  It appears to have had a handful of rounds fired thru it at most since it was bought new.  Introduced in 1981, the Remington Model 7400 features a gas-metered semi-auto action that proved to be both reliable, accurate, and fast, allowing for fast follow-up shots and very low felt recoil.  It quickly became popular with deer hunters and other big game hunters, and remained in production until 2005 when it was replaced by the Model 750 Woodsmaster, which was simply an "improved" Model 7400.  This particular Model 7400 features a gloss blue factory finish, a factory drilled and tapped receiver, a 22" inch barrel with factory iron sights, a 4-shot detachable box magazine (with hold-open lever), and a checkered American Walnut stock set with a blued steel forend cap and black buttplate and pistol grip cap.  The finish on this rifle rates 95%, with some scattered handling/storage marks and some speckling from prior surface rust.  The worst spot on the rifle is on the left side of the barrel just below the rear sight where prior surface rust removed the blue finish.  As you can see from the pictures, all the other handling/storage marks are very minor and only really visible under close inspection.  These deductions really do not detract much from the clean overall look of the rifle.  The bore in the 22" inch barrel is immaculate and bright, with sharp rifling throughout that looks brand-new.  There is no pitting, erosion, or imperfections visible in the bore.  The original stock set is in great shape and is very attractive.  Both the forearm and buttstock are free from any cracks, chips, or repairs, an only show some very small handling and storage marks in the wood.  The fine checkering on the wrist and forearm is crisp, clean, and free from any damage.  In our opinion it is a far surperior checkering than the pressed checkering Remington used on later variations and the "basket weave" pattern used on earlier models.  All of the stock hardware is intact, in-place, and in excellent condition overall.  The factory buttplate was perfectly fit to the buttstock and is still tight to the wood.  The action on this Remington is smooth and precise, showing no wear on the bolt and locking into battery perfectly.  All of the controls on this Model 7400 are in perfect working order, and the factory trigger is quite good, breaking with a light pull without any grit or excessive travel.  The factory detachable 4-round box magazine is in excellent condition and has plenty of spring pressure on the follower.  We have no doubt that this rifle will function just like the day it left the factory in all respects.  It comes with a 1-piece Weaver base already mounted on the receiver and lacks only rings and a scope from being ready for the woods or range.  The .270 Winchester chambering is an ideal cartridge for North America, it's fast, accurate, and has plenty of knock-down power for most big game here in the U.S. without having a large amount of recoil.  Factory-loaded .270 Winchester ammunition is available just about anywhere that sells rifle ammo, and there is a huge variety of brands, bullet weights, and bullet designs available to choose from.  This will allow the new owner to easily find the best load for accuracy in this exact rifle, and also tailor the ammunition to the specific game you are hunting.  Many experienced outdoorsman will tell you that the .270 Winchester cartridge is THE BEST all-around centerfire rifle round for hunting in the U.S.A., and many of us here at A&M Inc. would agree with that sentiment.  If you have been looking for a neat new rifle that is well-made, affordable, and different from the normal bolt-action repeater, this 1991 Remington Model 7400 would be a great choice.
