Description:
Nickel & PEARL SMITH & WESSON .38 S&W Revolver C&R

Circa 1902 .38 S&W Double Action with PEARL GRIPS!

Here we present a Smith & Wesson .38 S&W Double Action 4th Model Revolver with Mother of Pearl Grisp, made circa 1902 in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Smith & Wesson Fourth Models were produced from 1895 to 1909, and this gun was manufactured roughly in the middle of the production run. Serial numbers for the 4th model ran from 322,701 to 539,300 for a total of approximately 216,600. Differences between the third model and the fourth were doing away with the rocker-type cylinder stop, along with removing the extra cuts in the cylinder. It was intended for self-defense purposes and was sold to the public, though it is known that American Express purchased some of these for their personnel and probably many LE departments of the day as well.

This revolver would have been head to head with the Colt 1877 Lightning as well as the Iver Johnson and Harrington & Richardson revolvers of the period. This revolver was head and shoulders higher quality than the latter two companies. They finished this one in nickel with blue accents and case colored hammer and trigger. The mother of pearl grips and the 6-inch barrel make this one a head-turner.

The overall condition is very fine. 97% of the original nickel finish remains. Case colors are still visible. The markings are clear. The numbers match. The mother of pearl grips are in great shape with just the slightest flake on the left panel near the frame. The bore is sharp and bright. The action is excellent.
