Description:
The pump-action Remington Model 760 Gamemaster was first introduced in 1952 and remained in production until 1980, when it was replaced with the Model 7600.  The Model 760 Gamemaster was a commercial success for the firm, with the rifle developing quite a following with sportsman all over the country.  The Gamemaster proved to be very accurate, reliable, and well-made, giving the shooter the ability to fire quick follow-up shots while staying "on target" with ease.  The pump-action design was particularly useful in extreme weather that would render many semi-automatic rifles unreliable at best.  This particular Remington 760 is chambered in .270 Winchester and was made in 1969; and it remains in excellent condition overall.  It features a gloss blue factory finish on all of the metal parts, a 22" inch barrel with factory iron sights, a 4-shot detachable box magazine, and a press-checkered American Walnut stock set with a gloss finish, white spacers, a black forend tip, a black pistol grip cap, and a black buttplate.  The original gloss-blue finish is beautiful and rates 97%, with the only deductions coming from some tiny handling marks and 3 very small spots on the left side of the receiver where there has been some surface rust.  As you can see from the pictures, these deductions do not detract any appreciable amount from the beautiful clean look of this rifle.  The bore in this Remington is minty and mirror-bright.  The rifling still shows "like-new" sharp lands and grooves throughout the barrel.  There is no pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind visible in the bore.  The internal parts in this rifle are just as pristine as the bore, making it very likely that this rifle has been fired a handful of times at most since leaving the factory in 1969.  The original stock set on this rifle is in excellent condition overall.  Both the forearm and buttstock are free from any cracks, chips, major damage, or repairs.  There are some scattered tiny storage/handling marks in the wood if you look very closely, otherwise the press checkering and original clearcoat are nearly flawless and very attractive.  The factory-installed white spacers are all intact but slightly yellowed from the tinting of the clearcoat, the black pistol grip cap and forend tip are in great shape, and the Remington-branded black buttplate is perfectly fit to the stock and tight to the wood.  The stock has factory installed sling swivel studs located on the keel of the buttstock and on the front forearm screw.  The action on this rifle is smooth and precise but is still tight from lack of use.  It has not even been "broken-in" yet.  The controls on this rifle are all in perfect working order and the trigger is quite good, breaking with a light pull.  This rifle should still perform 100% like the day it left the factory.  This Remington 760 Gamemaster comes complete with a period/vintage U.S.A.-made Redfield Tracker 3-9x40 scope already mounted on it in "See-thru" aluminum mounts/rings.  This Redfield scope is in excellent condition and has bright, clear optics with a standard duplex-style reticle.  Both the eyepiece and objective lens are in perfect shape and free from any scratches or coating issues.  All of the scope controls are in perfect working order, including the elevation and windage adjustments.  This is a very high-quality scope and is the perfect optic choice for this rifle.  The see-thru mounts allow the shooter to use the factory iron sights if needed.  This vintage Remington 760 Gamemaster rifle would be a great addition to any hunting rifle collection.  It is a beautiful rifle in a great caliber, perfect for taking almost any North American big game quickly and cleanly without excessive felt-recoil.
