Description:
#254175, J.P. Sauer & Sohn, Suhl: Von Lengerke & Detmold Inc. New York, N.Y. U. S. Agents: 30 U.S.G. 1906, Made In Germany.: A Mauser Pre-War Sporter in 30-06 proved April 1930 and delivered to VL & D in 1930, Oberndorf Commercial Mauser action #107567 that was also made and delivered to J.P. Sauer in 1930, 23" Krupp steel Half Round Half Octagon barrel with a full length profiled machined Integral Rib that is matted the entire length, 1 standing & 2 folding rear sights, Sling eye on the barrel, A lug on the barrel with a wedge tiedown in the forend, Every Mauser serial number matches and most likely the action was brand new when it arrived at Sauer, The Sauer serial number is matching on the barrel, Matted receiver ring, Not drilled or tapped, Two panel checkered bolt knob; Case hardened bolt body, bolt sleeve and cocking piece, Polished trigger face and trigger bar, Hinged floorplate with a center bow release, Classic Sauer stock with a schnabel forend tip, Point pattern checkering, Shadowline cheekpiece, Sling eyes, Hard rubber grip cap, 14 1/8" LOP over a steel buttplate, 7 lbs. 13 oz., All of the metal was reblued but not polished, The stock was reoiled but does not appear that it was sanded, Both the metal and wood now are at 98%. The beauty of this piece is the bore condition as it remains like new and looks like it did in 1930. The difference in liking a gun or loving a gun is in the details.

Von Lengerke & Detmold in New York City was respected for its European-made sporting guns and fishing tackle, Von Lengerke & Antoine was the Chicago branch, they later became a subsidiary in August of 1929 and were bought by Abercrombie & Fitch. VL & D did advertise custom built guns.
