Description:
Smith & Wesson K-38 Masterpiece, double-action revolver, with a 6-inch barrel, target wood stocks, target hammer, open adjustable rear sight, and a bright blue finish.  The revolver has no model number, which is consistent with K-38s preceding manufacture of Model 14s and 15s. The serial number, K 313xxx, is stamped on the bottom of the frame butt under the stock.  The revolver has a four-screw configuration, with one screw (#3) under the stock and one on the front of the trigger guard.  This revolver was purchased from a widow who said her husband was issued the gun as a detective in Los Angeles in the early 1960s.  Based on the foregoing information, the year of manufacture was determined to be 1957.  There is no box or other accessories.

The barrel is 95 percent, with holster wear to the muzzle and front sight.  There is also a small amount of holster wear to the cylinder.  The cylinder-lock scar is very light, indicating light usage of the gun.  The frame and trigger guard are 95+ percent, showing very light wear, with a few tiny scratches visible at an angle in the light.

The stock is a bit unusual.  Notice that the left side has a bevel about a half inch forward of the S&W seal.  It has been suggested that the stock might have been switched out by the police department or the officer to whom it was issued.  At any rate, the stock shows wear, particularly on the right side, where the wood is darkened, probably due to body oil from handling.  The right side also has a dent at the bottom and wear to the finish of the wood.  The front and bottom of the right-side stock shows a crack in the wood, though there appears to be no danger of further splitting or breaking off.  The bottom of the stock (both sides) shows quite a bit of denting.

Contact me for additional photos of any area you would like to see or see better.  The buyer pays USPS Priority mail ($25) and insurance, if desired.  I will accept a personal check, but will hold the gun until it clears.  I will also accept a USPS money order which I do not have to hold, as it clears immediately.  I will accept other type money orders, but will hold gun until it clears.
