Description:
General Specs: Fox, Year 1923, 16 Gauge, 6lbs, Chokes Cyl/M, LOP 14 1/8", DAH 2 5/8", DAC 1 9/16"
Serial Number: 301933

The A.H. Fox C Grade guns are considered by many to be the most attractive of the Fox guns.  There are higher grades, but the C Grade engraving is elegant.  The 16ga. C Grade is a rare gun, as they only produced 305 C Grade Fox guns in 16ga. and only 202 came from the Philadelphia factory.   Anyone who has handled the Fox 16ga. graded guns realize they are all built on the 20-gauge frame and are light and finely balanced double guns that are a delight to carry afield.  Balanced on the hinge pin and weighing just 6lbs., this CE Fox sn301933 built in 1923, is delightful in hand.  Most Fox collectors are aware that the engraving from the 1923 era is superior to later or earlier Fox CE guns you will see.  The wood-to-metal fit is excellent, as are the screws.  The barrels are tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face, with perfect mirror bores and the top lever well right of center.  These 28” Chromox Steel barrels are Fox’s lightest #4 weight barrels and are factory choked Cyl/Mod (.005/.019 constrictions which are SK/M in today’s world).  There are very few #4 weight barrels on CE 16ga. Fox guns.  This Fox retains all factory original finishes on metal and wood, with 98% barrel blue, 40% case color, and the trigger guard with about 20% blue remaining and turning a pleasing soft grey.    The nicely figured European walnut has a few light handling marks as you would expect, but no cracks or repairs.  This fine Philly Fox matches the factory order card precisely and has not been altered since leaving the factory.  It is a remarkable find in this world of restored and altered guns.  THIS IS A VFI CERTIFIED GUN, WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY.  We have stripped the action and forend iron to their smallest parts, cleaned in the Ultrasonic cleaner, inspected all for integrity and function, properly lubricated all and reassembled.  You can have confidence in a VFI CERTIFIED Fox and know that it is spotless inside and out.  Who else provides a 90-day warranty on a 96-year-old gun?  What a great Fox gun for all your upland needs and sporting clays when those vintage shoots come up.  The Fox CE 16ga. is highly sought after and the values continue to rise, so don’t let this one get away from you.  Thanks for looking!
