Description:
This is a Field Grade model of the L.C. Smith product line. It was produced for that company by Hunter Arms in 1939. L.C. Smith shotguns are relatively hard to find and were made to very exacting standards. The Field Grade is the most common model with 199,384 manufactured. The Field model comes with silver mid and front sighting beads and a tall rib. This example is equipped with double triggers but does not have auto-ejectors. The barrels are made of London steel. Most of the bluing is still visible with some wear. The bore of each barrel is in excellent condition. The color case hardening on the receiver is still visible on the side if a little faded. The bottom of the receiver has some minor pitting. The wood has a good finish to it though with some wear on the left side. The stock retains the original butt plate. The shotgun is chambered in 16 gauge. The right barrel has a modified choke and the left barrel has a full choke. This would make an excellent general-purpose shotgun within the limitations of the caliber.
