Description:
This is one of the nicest all-original Smith & Wesson Model 28 Highway Patrolman revolvers we have had in many years.  Made in 1966, this beautiful Model 28-2 .357 Magnum revolver with a 4" inch barrel comes complete with the original box with an intact end-label numbered to the gun, the owner's manual, the factory sight adjustment screwdriver, and a partial warranty card (the half you sent in to register it is gone).  It has all of the most sought-after features including a pinned barrel, recessed chambers, and factory S&W "diamond" grips numbered to the gun.  This Smith appears to have been bought new and fired at most a handful of times before it was put into long-term storage.  These early production guns have a much higher degree of polish and fit and finish than the later production Model 28's.  The original gloss-blue factory finish on this Smith is absolutely beautiful, rating 98%.  The only deductions come from a touch of finish wear around the muzzle, some scattered tiny handling marks, and very minor "box wear" on some of the high-edges.  As you can see from the pictures, none of these deductions stick out and are only visible under very close inspection.  They do not detract any appreciable amount from the clean, like-new look of the gun overall.  All of the factory stamps on this Smith are crisp and clean, and they all have a very attractive period-applied gold fill in them for visiblity and an attractive contrast.  The factory case-colored hammer and trigger are beautiful, showing 99% of the original bright colors.  The bore in this Highway Patrolman is minty and mirror-bright.  The rifling still looks new with nice sharp lands and grooves, and there is no visible pitting, erosion, or imperfections whatsoever.  The 6 cylinder bores are equally as clean and pristine.  The original factory checkered diamond grips are in great shape overall showing only some very minor handling marks, and they are factory serial-numbered to the gun.  Both sides are free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage, and both sides are perfectly fit to the gun and tight to the frame.  The action on this Model 28-2 is very smooth and precise, typical of these hand-fit vintage guns.  Whether it is worked in single or double-action, or worked fast or slow, it is perfectly "in time" and locks up tight.  All of the controls on this S&W are in perfect working order, and the trigger breaks nicely without any grit or excessive travel.  This Highway Patrolman should perform perfectly, like it left the factory last week instead of 53 years ago.  The original box and all of the inserts are in excellent condition, making this Smith & Wesson an exceptional piece.  If you have been looking for a superb all-original example of the famous Model 28 Highway Patrolman for your collection, here is your chance to get one of the best we have seen a very long time!
