This National Postal Meter Cal .30 Serial No. 4240475 was mfg about Feb - Earley March of 1944. The gun bluing is all the correct contrasting black - gray light parkerizing that was
consistant w/Nat'l Postal Meter's process. A lot was was going on at the NPM plant becaucse of it's many suppliers. They had to often wait for suppliers to receive the necessary parts and then had to swap serial number allocations because of this. However it is the opinion of this writer and the author of "M-1Carbine -R.C. Larson" that they were some of the highest quality M-1 Carbines of WW II. The stock is the correct High Wood that NPM used througout all production and has the NPM Cartouche on the r-side that frames a "NPM/FJA" cartouche & w/the name of the supplier stamped in the sling well "TRIMBLE / TN" for "Trimble Nursury & Furniture Co." The stock is in excellent condition.
The action is also excellent and the bore measures a "1" & the throat the same. The bore is smooth and shiney. It comes w/a period type sling and an oiler (I0).

Receiver - Narrow Tang T2 w/narrow tang, Barrel - IBM w/o date, Rear Sight - Flip Type w/"N-A" on R -Side and "S" on the Right,
Front Sight - T1 w/"N", Bolt - T2 w/N Flat, (All correct components), Trigger Hsg - T2-N9Y, Trigger - T2 SN, Sear - T2 - LN, Safety - T3 - SN, Mag Catch - T3 - SN, Oper Slide - T4 -UN w/"11" (See Dwg Nos), Oper Slide Stop - T2, Stock - T4 w/Cartouche of "NPM/FJA" and adjacent Cross Cannon and Mfg Mark in Slingwell of "TRIMBLE" for Trimble Nursury & Furniture Co., Handguard - T2 (2-hole) w/"TN" on the underside, Recoil Plate - T2 w/"LN" letters. (The magazine in the pics is not included).
Barrel Band - T1A (Wide Slot) w/"UN" letters, Sling - T2 w/"U" Buckle Tip w/"IO" oiler.
This is to me a collector grade Carbine and is becoming a rare find. I would rate this National Postal Meter as an NRA Very Good to Excellent.
