Description:
#4887, E. J. Churchill Gunmakers Ltd., Orange Street, Gunworks, Leicester Square, London: A Churchill Sidelock Ejector Bar Action 12 Bore Game Gun in Crown Model Made in 1933, Then in 1977 a New London set of barrels were added and proofed in London at 3 Tons in 1977, Most likely done at Churchill, Atkin, Grant & Lang using the above correct address at Orange Street where the gun was originally made in 1933, 25" ejector dovetail lump barrels at .729 .009 & .018" (Imp.Cyl. & Mod.), 2 1/2" chambers, Wall thickness at .032" on both right & left, Double triggers, Splinter forend with an Anson frontal release, Straight hand stock at 14 7/16 x 1 1/2 x 2" over a near full face checkered butt, 3/4" Cast-Off for the right hand, Great Gun weight at only 5 lbs. 14 oz., It handles like a 20 bore, Excellent wood with very deep black/brown contrast, 99% coverage of Crown Grade period scroll engraving, The piece retains 90% barrel blue, The stock with original oil finish and remains at 85%, The checkering is at 95%, The barrels inside & out remain in excellent plus condition without a ding or pit to be had, It is cased in the original maker's leather cornered "V. C." leather trunk with the proper trade labels. The barrels remain on the face and they ring with a very nice chime. On walk up bird shooting over dogs 25" barrels work absolutely as efficient as longer barrels in the hands of the average upland hunter. If you can prove me differently, I will give you this gun. Here is a 2 1/2" 12 bore that weighs less than the average 28" barreled 20 bore Sidelock. This is a very nice 12 Bore game gun from the Golden Era with an excellent set of new 1977 barrels.
