INDIAN WARS Antique SPENCER Repeating Carbine
.50 Spencer Saddle Ring Cavalry Carbine!
Here we present an antique Spencer Repeating Rifle Co. Army Model Cavalry Carbine, made circa 1863-1865 in Boston, Massachusetts, during the Civil War. This one was armory updated circa 1867 along with about 11,000 others for use during the Indian Wars. These lever-operated, breech-loading rifles were marvels of the time and had a lasting impact on how war was to be fought in the future. These came out during the Civil War to great effect for the Union Army. They would be used beside trapdoor rifles and carbines throughout the remainder of the 19th Century.
This one bears clear inspectors’ marks on the stock, including a cartouche on the left side of the wrist as well as initials on the comb and the bottom of the stock.
The overall condition is very good. 30% of the blue finish remains. Muted case colors remain on the breech block. The markings are mostly legible. The walnut stock is in fabulous shape for the age and use. The bore is in good condition with strong rifling. The action is excellent. Here is a terrific example of the legendary Spencer carbine!
