Description:
This 1878 vintage Colt Single Action Army, is fitted with a 7-1/2" inch barrel, and original one piece varnished walnut grips. This Colt is an early black powder frame variation, finished in blue with color case-hardened frame, and chambered in .45 Colt. The gun is an honest original cowboy era revolver, in used but not abused condition. The gun shows a lot of it's original bright blue finish (approximately 30-40%), particularly in the protected areas and the remainder a nice even patina. There is approximately 30-40% of case colors left on the receiver and hammer. The bore has strong rifling with some minor corrosion throughout. The action functions perfectly, with a tight lock-up. The original varnished grips fit very well, show minimal handling marks, and feature a period inscription "G.L.S. Denver, 1879" which only lends to its unique cowboy era and western heritage. If one were to obtain a Colt factory letter, this revolver quite possibly shipped to the famous J.P. Lower Sportsman's Depot, located in Denver, CO. All of this Colt's features appear to be as they were when shipped. A nice honest example of a cowboy era 1st Generation Black Powder Colt Single Action with western heritage.
