Description:
Price is for the Paladin #25. Email offers on the following.  Selling my Arvo Ojala holster collection.  I bought most of them directly from Arvo himself in the early 80"s.  After I purchased the twin rig from the John Wayne / Dean Martin 1959 movie "Rio Bravo," made expressly for Ricky Nelson, I convinced Arvo to replicate his "Paladin" holster he made for Richard Boone, in a limited edition of 25 holsters, which include a sterling silver Knight including a ruby eye; according to Arvo.  I got #7 and #14 of the edition.  I used #25 for costumes but never wore #14.  I also acquired from Arvo the "Laramie" holster made for Robert Horton (SOLD) that has his name and the TV name stamped on the belt..  (I have athentication letters from Arvo on the Rio Bravo and Laramie holsters.)  I also have a custom holster and an Alphonso holster for a woman.

Arvo used to drive from LA down to see me in Rancho Santa Fe (San Diego).  I had a large collection of SA Colts, so he’d bring me things to try to sell.  One that I bought was the twin holster rig worn by Ricky Nelson in the Duke’s movie, Rio Bravo (1959).  I also bought a holster with Robert Fuller’s name stamped inside from the series Laramie.  ( I still have them and they are for sale).  Arvo showed me the twin nickel Colt .45’s with sequential serial #’s, and a letter from the Colt factory designating them as a gift to soon to be President Reagan.  Arvo had given them to Reagan and took them back to get them engraved., then return them.  He also had included a special twin holster rig with the gift.

Arvo was going to make rifle slings, so he gave me one of the prototypes and an Arvo belt buckle.  He showed some quick draw techniques such as keeping the trigger pulled back and fanning the last five shots, first with the thumb and then sequential fingers, so it sounded like a machine gun.  A lot of those techniques I included in a novel I wrote, Colt & Big Thunder (bigthunder).

He won the patent for his metal lined holster with the strap on the holster and his typical metal rectangle buckle.  He had to fight Bohlen for it as Arvo was working for them in the early 50’s.  I noticed recently that in The Maginificent 7 all of the stars had an Arvo rig.  One of my favorite TV series was Have Gun Will Travel.  I knew one of the screen writers, Gil Ralston, for the series.  Arvo told me that he had made the Palidin holster for Richard Boone.  So, I suggested to Arvo that he make a limited series reproduction of the rig.  I asked that since it was my idea that he sell me #1 and #7…he sold me #7 and #14!!

Since I just sold my last Colt .45 through GI, I don’t need the holsters any longer. And that’s the story.
