Description:
This Williams & Powell 12-Gauge game gun, which was manufactured in Liverpool circa 1880, appears to be in high original condition.  The engraving is extensive and remains sharp.  There are no dents, pits, or scratches on the receiver, and its patina is natural for the age of the gun.  The shade of the browned Damascus-steel barrels has faded somewhat with time, but the pattern remains very distinctive.  The exteriors of the barrels are very attractive and have no  pitting or dents.  The bores are bright and are without pitting.  The English walnut stock is well figured and in excellent condition with only slight handling marks.  The sidelock actions are sophisticated and are precisely machined.  The hammers are rebounding. The gun shoots a 70/30 pattern typical of English guns of the period.

The 28” barrels have 2-3/4” chambers and are choked improved modified (.025) in the right barrel and cylinder (.000) in the left.  The wall thicknesses of the right barrel at nine inches from the muzzle are .041/.044/.040 (top/side/bottom), and at the middle of the barrel are .045/.050/.047.  The wall thicknesses for the left barrel are .038/.040/.042 and .042/.044/.047 respectively.  The diameters of the bores 9” from the breech are .740 and .735, respectively.  The outside diameters of the barrels at the muzzle are .814 and .820, respectively.  The gun weighs 7 lbs. 5 oz.  The drop is 1-1/2” at the comb and 2-1/2” at the heel.  LOP is 14-1/4” to the end of a ¾”  recoil pad.  The cast is 1/8” off.  The gun locks up tightly and all serial numbers, 7641, match.

The price does not include shipping costs paid by buyer.  The inspection period is 7 days from receipt.  This shotgun has been fired on the range on a number of occasions using shells manufactured by RST Corporation designed for use in Damascus-barreled shotguns.  However, as for any antique or vintage shotgun, it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by his or her own gunsmith before firing, and then only use shells that produce pressures for which the gun was designed.  The gun carries a 30-day warranty, during which Doublegun Preservation, LLC will have any mechanical problems documented by a professional gunsmith repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and all shipping costs.  Please do not hesitate to call with questions Steve at 703-625-4830.
