FIRST YEAR CIVIL WAR SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1861 RIFLE MUSKET DATED 1861. 40" rifled .58 cal. barrel with “V/P/EAGLEHEAD” U.S. Ordnance Springfield Armory proofs at the breech. Desirable and scarce “1861” dated lock plate. All original and correct and in very good to fine condition with metal light grey with patina and markings very crisp. Stock with moderate field wear and two excellent U.S. Ordnance Inspector’s cartouches. Has a few minor nicks and a small chip lost at the right side of the barrel tang which you can not see unless cocked. Old hex “X” carved on side panel and name stamp “J.E. HUTT” on both sides of butt. Perfect working order and excellent plus bore. Original ramrod. Scarce.
