Description:
Serial No. 149 & 933. .38 rimfire with 4- ½” barrels. These revolvers were produced in 1872 and are early conversions to cartridge from percussion. Both are five shot, single action, chambers for the .38 rimfire cartridge with 4- ½” octagon barrels and are factory nickel. Both are very early / low serial number revolvers and both have the spring loaded gate. Both feature brass back straps and trigger guards, and have all matching numbers except wedges are unmarked. Both revolvers index and lock up perfectly. Strong clean bores. Serial No. 933: Barrel retains approximately 40% original nickel, as does cylinder and frame. Most of the plating has worn off the back strap with traces on trigger guard and sports a fine set of aged ivory grips. Serial No. 149: Barrel retains approximately 75% original factory nickel, cylinder retains approximately 85% original factory nickel, frame retains approximately 90% original factory nickel, back strap and trigger guard retain approximately 75% original factory nickel. The grips on this gun appear to be some ivory-type composite and are shy to the metal. Both revolvers feature strong barrel legend, have the 1872/1873 patent dates on left side of frame and strong cylinder scenes. Both revolvers are housed in a period case that has been refitted / lined and comes with a full box of UMC .38 long rimfire cartridges.
