Description:
This 1866 SRC shows a rare full nickel finish. A factory letter (included) states only "Carbine serial #149xxx, received in warehouse Nov. 16, 1877, and shipped June 5, 1878". The nickel plating appears to be factory applied as the carbine shows no buffing what-so-ever. The SRC is in good overall condition. It was well used, probably up into the 20th century as it was converted to .44 center fire. The brass frame retains about 65% muted nickel, the hammer 80%, and the barrel about 25%. The gun is all original except a replaced butt plate that is numbered to another gun and not a perfect fit. The screws are good with good slots, only the front barrel band screw being buggered. The markings are light, a little hard to read because of flaking nickel, but all correct. The mechanics are good and functioning as they should and the bore is good, showing strong rifling. On the right forward side of the frame is stamped, in small letters a "7" over "CL"??? The upper portion of the rear sight is broken off, common on well used 66's. The wood is good and original to the gun with normal dings and scratches from use and carry. There is a ¾" "X" carved into the right side of the butt stock. The wood-to-metal fit is perfect. FOR DOMESTIC SALE ONLY.
