This 1917 example is one of 5500 made that year before production ceased for the war. In exceedingly nice shape, with only minor scattered nicks and handling marks, this can easily become the star of many Savage 99 collections. Wood and metal finish are excellent and action interior is similarly nice, with nice mustard yellow brass magazine spool. Barrel clocks tight to the action, and its shank has the pre-war style interrupted take down threads. This is the only 1899 to have the checkered trigger. Also notice the perch belly stock and fore end iron cross screw. Solid and tight wood, crisp checkering, and all the other details add up to make this one exceptional rifle.
