Description:
Beautiful and seldom seen First Year production Winchester Pre War Model 70! 4 digit S/N 14** made in 1936. The bolt also has a faintly scribed but present and matching number. The 24 " barrel has a very good bore with strong rifling. Mechanics are perfect. Overall condition is excellent with typical light handling wear throughout. I would rate at 95% original Blue and Varnish with the exception of the butt plate which has faded toward silver. Thankfully, the top matted area of rear receiver bridge remains UNDRILLED. These EARLY 70s are the finest of the entire lot, and are special in several ways, most notably the fabulous carbonum blued, polished receivers which in my experience had about disappeared by around early to mid 1940. Also present is the unique frost blued extractor and correct squared off magazine floor plate release seen only on the very earliest rifles. This rifle has obviously been very well cared for over the last 83 years and would make a worthy addition to most any collection. Flat rate expedited/insured shipping from Alaska only $55.
