Description: SOLD...Antique 1893 Marlin rifle. This is a pretty nice and clean 1893 Marlin. It is in the sought after 38-55 caliber. It has the standard 26” octagon barrel. S/N 163991 and made in 1898. The bore is excellent. Bright and shiny with just a hint of very light frosting on the lands.. This will probably clean out to near mint as the patches are still coming out a little dirty and gray from leading. The rifling is very strong and deep. This gun shoots excellent as you would expect. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly with no issues .. The gun does have a little finish... The barrel has about 25% blue mostly on the bottom flats where protected mixing with a plumb brown patina.... never cleaned on or messed with. The receiver has just traces of case color patterning on the left side and a little on the bottom tang and lever.. {see photos}.. Case colors on the right side have “silvered out”... The gun has no pitting anywhere...Has the original rocky mountain front sight. The rear sight looks like a later but maybe period of use replacement.{ see photo}.. It has an excellent sighting picture when shooting... All the markings are good. The screw heads are all excellent and clean and show no tampering with or burred up. It is missing the two upper tang filler screws for a tang sight but these are very easily found. {see photo}.. I can install them before it sells if the buyer wants me to, no big deal.. The wood has a couple issues. The forearm fits tight and proud to the metal but has a chip out on the front left side by the end cap as you can see... NO other cracks or splits... and just a few normal handling dings and scratches.. The butt stock looks like it has had a repair on both sides at the wrist area. Not real noticeable but if you look very closely it looks like it has a bolt or screw going through it at one time and has been removed and repaired to look much better. I have not touched it and it is just the way I got it years ago.. It never bothered me.. I can send very close up photos of this or any other area you may want to see as I want everyone to see what they are spending their hard earned money on and be happy with their purchase. The butt stock fits good and fits full and proud on the upper and lower tangs and the right side of the receiver. It fits flush on the left side receiver. No other splits or cracks and shows normal dings and bruises. This is still a very nice looking Marlin with an excellent bore and a little finish remaining for the money. It is what it is and would make a perfect hunting rifle, shooter or collector that will no doubt put food on the table as it was meant to. If this gun had the usual average dark bore, it would be price a couple $100 cheaper.. Getting hard to find excellent bores in any of these antique rifles. I have been hoarding them away for years and have had this one for quite some time but it is getting time to let a few go to new homes where they will be appreciated for what they are.
