Description:
 Model # R 1
This survival knife is inspired by the one we see in the first movie "Rambo," "First Blood," but is not a copy.
This is essentially based in two points: First, the faces of the blade are curved, therefore more stronger than the flat faces of the original. Secondly the fixing of the blade in the handle was achieved by embedding of a post of section tenon 6 X 22 to a length of 26mm, pulled by two M4 socket screws in a through mortise obtained by electroerosion or slotting in a handle of a diameter of 26mm.  After seeing the film, Tanazacq drew several models, then realized a steel sketch that he found fragile and not very compatible with a true actual field service; he then modified his project and realized the model you can see.
This knife is an original vintage version from 1982/83 and a rarity from another era. The slightest variations find on each knife R1 and R2 can be easily observed. However, the real difference lies in two important details: the shape of the sawteeth and the final shape of the sharp cutting edge, one of which is straight as seen in this particular model while the other is curved as seen on the model R 2; otherwise everything else is the same. The 9" blade has fourteen protuberant sawteeth extending  about half of the false edge, while stopping about an inch from the guard. Both models are contained in a very heavy-duty high quality thick leather scabbard with hone pocket for a sharpening stone (not provided)  and equipped with a swivel on the back for tie-down thongs. Both knives are made of full stainless steel construction. In theory the saw works on wood only because the sharpening of the teeth is exactly the same as the ones find on an industrial milling machine cutter or a machine saw. These are very beautiful knives, yet, very functional as a survival tool that will withstand the harsher uses. All with all knives made by Jean Tanazacq, all had a very aggressive cutting edge ready for any tasks. These knives were extremely difficult to manufacture due in part to the relatively very limited amount of machinery used by Tanazacq;  they are no longer available for over 35 years. Highly sought among knife collectors as these are very valuable pieces.
