Description:
The "Pre-War" Colt Official Police Model double-action revolver was introduced in 1927 and manufactured until 1946. Offered in several calibers and four barrel lengths, the Official Police was a commercial success for the Colt firm and quickly earned a reputation for being a very well-made gun that was reliable and accurate. This particular example was made in 1943 and features a 5" inch barrel and is chambered in .38 Special. It is an all-original gun in great shape overall that has not been altered or messed with in any way. This Official Police has obviously lived an easy life and has been well-cared for over the years. The original factory gloss blue finish is still bright and attractive, showing only minor wear, handling marks, and some evidence of prior minor surface rust scattered in places. As you can see from the pictures, the Colt has a very nice clean and attractive look to it. The bore in the 5" inch barrel is excellent, it still shows strong rifling throughout and there is no pitting or imperfections visible. The cylinder bores are equally as clean and bright and free from any imperfections or wear. The original factory checkered American Walnut grips are still intact on this Official Police and in good condition. The hand-cut checkering shows some wear on both sides, but both grips are 100% solid and are free from any cracks, chips, or repairs. The original silver Rampant Colt medallions are still in place on each grip and both grips are perfectly tight to the grip frame. The action on this Colt Official Police really has to be felt to truly be appreciated. Whether you work the action in single-action or double-action it is perfectly "in time" and extremely smooth. The cylinder locks up tight with no play or slop in it, and the trigger breaks with a light pull with no grit or excessive travel. These "Pre-War" double-action Colt's have amazing actions, hand-fit and hand-tuned by extremely skilled gunsmiths that worked for Colt during this period. This 1943 manufacture Colt Official Police would be an excellent addition to any gun collection, and could be enjoyed as a shooter as well as an investment.
