This Remington Model 81 The Woodsmaster is a right hand semi-auto rifle in .30 Rem. Cal. It has a 22 inch barrel with a blade front, folding adjustable notch middle and adjustable peep rear sights. The stock is a smooth walnut pistol grip. John Browning considered the humpbacked long recoil action was the best thing he ever did. The design was very strong and meant to work well for a long time. The fat barrel is deceptive because the actual barrel is held in a jacket, a tube of larger diameter. With each shot the barrel moves back against a spring inside this tube and that movement transfers energy to the bolt and allows the recoil of the shot to cycle the action.
