Description:
Geo. Bate BLE ~Birmingham Gunmaker~ in 12 Gauge. A Boxlock Ejector Gun with 28" barrels, a smooth, concaved, solid rib with a silver front bead sight, 2 1/2" chambers, choked improved cylinder (.009) and full (.032), double triggers and an extended trigger-guard. The rib is marked, "Geo. Bate (Gunmakers) Ltd. 132 Steelhouse Lane - Birmingham." The butt-stock is a straight grip English walnut with tear drop cheeks, extended wrap-around checkering, and includes a silver, blank, initial plate and a 3/4" Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad. The splinter, checkered forend has engraved furniture and an Anson push-button release. The boxlock action has extensive English scroll and floral bouquet engraving, which extends to barrels and trigger-guard. The two lump, double bite, barrels are stamped "MADE IN ENGLAND" and includes the serial number, 5405, and the watertables on both sides are stamped "BP" (British Proof), "Nitro Proof" and "<12> 2 1/2", 1 1/8 oz." Condition: The barrels have a good amount of blue remaining but is thinning adjacent to the forend. The cased colors on the action are all but gone, some still showing under the release lever but there is very strong color remaining on the protected forend iron. Bores are bright and shiny and there are no barrel dings. Stocks: The aged stocks are sound with no cracks but there are some small scratches and nicks here and there, the checkering is worn and has a couple small chips, and what look's to be the original oil finish appears to be in good to fair condition. The shotgun is sound and tight with the barrels on face, release lever is to the right of center and the forend and iron snaps closed and the push-button release opens easily. Dimension: 14 7/8" length of pull over 3/4" recoil, 1 1/2 DAC, 2 3/8" DAH & 5/16" Cast Off. Weighs: 6 1/2 Lbs.Please Note: There are a total of eleven photographs included with the ad and all can be seen on Cabela's Gun Library .
