Description:
Sold...DS...Colorado....a fine and rare British Export Officer's Fusil in .65 caliber and in its original flintlock configuration. 28 inch smoothbore barrel with bayonet lug front sight and its original mushroom head ramrod remain in original condition. The lock plate is a very rare 1776 date with an export marking that i was not able to find or research, possibly one of the early East India contracts. The brass mounting and pipes have a good patina and all the pins are in place and everthing is solid. The lockplate and its workings remain strong and have not been tampered with in any way. The wood to metal fit is excellent arsenal work and tight with no alterations of any kind. Half cock and full cock remain as strong as the day this fusil was made and it has a crisp trigger release. The 28 inch smoothbore barrel is clean inside with bright metal, no corrosion and the touch hole is open and clear. The English walnut stock has the early Brown Bess style palm swell and all the brass is pinned including the pipes. The stock has a wonderful patina with many small dings and dents and only one small repair on the right side by the nose cap...a repaired crack from long ago. This fusil was well taken care of remains in excellent shooting condition if one so desired. A fine and rare 1776 dated Officers fusil for the advanced collector. USPS priority mail is 35.00
