This Mauser Broomhandle is a very nice all-original and all-matching gun. Manufactured during WW1 for the Imperial German Military, these Mauser Broomhandle pistol were prized sidearms. Typically issued to troops that did not carry a full size rifle, the Broomhandle was designed to attach to a combination wooden stock and holster that was issued with it for improved accuracy and carbine-like handling. This particular example shows some wear and age to the exterior typical of a combat-used weapon from WW1, but is in good condition overall and excellent mechanically. The original blue finish from the factory has turned to a brown blue that is consistent on all of the metal parts. Exposure to the elements while in military service most likely caused this rather than actual wear from use. There are no bad spots or eyesores, it really has an attractive look to it overall. All of the factory stampings and military proofs are intact, clean, and legible. We stripped this pistol down and all of the factory numbered parts on this C96 are matching and original. The bore is very good in this Mauser. The rifling is strong and sharp throughout the barrel, with only a touch of frosting in the grooves. The original grips on this Broomhandle are in good condition. Both grips are numbered to the gun and tight to the grip frame with no wiggle. Both sides are free from any cracks, repairs, or major damage, showing only some handling wear consistent with the rest of the gun. The internals of this pistol are very clean and show very little to no mechanical wear. It has obviously been fired very little compared to it's age and likely military service history. All of the controls on this Mauser are in perfect working order, and the action is slick and precise. We have no doubt that this Broomhandle will function just as reliably today as the day it left the factory more than 100 years ago. If you have been looking for an all-original Broomhandle that looks like it saw combat in WW1 for your collection that you can enjoy as both an investment and at the range, this is it!
