Description:
This is a very attractive all-original and all-matching Japanese Arisaka Type 99 Rifle chambered in 7.7 Japanese caliber.  It has an intact Mum and an original matching bolt.  This Arisaka appears to have been made during the mid to late WW2 period, after the Japanese had made some changes to the rifle's production to make it both cheaper and faster to manufacture.  The full-length cleaning rod, airplane sights, and monopod were all eliminated, and many of the final polishing and fitting procedures were shortened or eliminated altogether.   The Arisaka Type 99 was still a well-made and reliable weapon, but certainly had a much more utilitarian look to it after these shortcuts.  This example has lots of the original blue finish remaining on all of the metal parts, rating a solid 90% plus.  Most of the deductions are actually for some signs of previous surface rust that has been removed rather than wear, and these areas do not stick out as eyesores or bad spots.  Only upon close inspection can one see these deductions.  All of the factory stampings including the serial number, the Mum, and the factory inspector's proofs are clean and crisp.  The bore in this Type 99 is excellent, shiny with strong rifling and sharp lands and grooves visible throughout the barrel.  The stock is really exceptional on this rifle.  Despite being a two piece buttstock the seam is virtually invisible.  Often on these Type 99's the wood is two different colors or the joint is readily visible.  Both the buttstock and handguard are in excellent condition overall and show only some very minor handling marks.  All of the stock hardware is intact and in great shape, including the original buttplate and sling swivels.  All of the controls on this Arisaka are in perfect working order, and the bolt works smoothly and locks up tight.  This Type 99 would be an excellent addition to any WW2 weapons collection or gun collection in general.  These all-matching and all-original guns with intact Mums are getting harder and harder to find as they make their way into long-term collections, and as a result of this they are steadily appreciating in value.
