Description:
This is a beautiful original World War 2 1911A1 pistol made by Ithaca in 1945.  It remains in excellent condition overall and is 100% correct to Clawson's 1911 book, with just some very minor handling/storage marks showing in the attractive original parkerized finish.  This Ithaca has an interesting factory "error" on it, if you look at the right side of the frame you will notice that the U.S. Ordnance wheel is stamped over an "FJA" stamp.  The best we can surmise is that the inspector Frank J. Atwood or one of his assistants picked up the wrong stamp at first and placed an "FJA" there instead of the Ordnance Wheel.  Upon realizing his mistake he stamped over it with the proper U.S. Ordnance Wheel.  All of the factory stampings including these are crisp and clean on this Ithaca.  The bore in the original High Standard blued barrel is in superb condition, mirror-bright with sharp rifling and no pitting, erosion, or imperfections visible throughout.  The original grips are also in excellent condition, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or noticeable wear.  Both sides are tight to the gun with no wiggle.  All of the parts of this Ithaca show an attractive and consistent patina on the exterior of the pistol, and the internals are nearly spotless with no measurable mechanical wear.  It is obvious that this Ithaca 1911A1 has been well-cared for and shot very little during it's life.  All of the controls on this Ithaca are in perfect working order.  The slide to frame fit is superb and the slide moves smoothly and precisely when worked by hand.  When it is "in battery" with the slide forward the barrel-to-slide lock-up is excellent.  This WW2 1911A1 comes with one original U.S.G.I. magazine marked "S" on the upper lip of the baseplate.  The magazine is just as clean and free from wear as the pistol itself and has a nice strong follower spring.  If you have been looking for a "collector grade" Ithaca 1911A1 for your collection, this 1945 example would be an excellent choice.  These Ithaca's are quite hard to find in any condition, much less as clean and correct as this one.
