Description:
This is a nice honest and original example of a World War 1 German Luger made by the Erfurt firm in 1916.  It is all-matching except for the grips which are un-numbered, and comes with the original factory matching magazine as well.  Interestingly enough the grips on this Luger are inscribed on the back of both grips.  The back of the left grip says " Given to me by Sheriff Bill Davis about 6/1/63 Daulton Standley Pensacola, Fla".  The back of the right grip says "To: Daulton Standley From: Bill Davis Sheriff Escambia County".  A quick Google search of "Sheriff Bill Davis Escambia County" returns a "Pensipedia" page that gives his bio and term as Sheriff from 1961 to 1970.  There is no telling how Bill Davis got this Luger, perhaps he had family or friends that served in WW1 or WW2, or perhaps he confiscated it from someone that shouldnt have had it.  Regardless, this 1916 Erfurt Luger is a nice solid example of one of the most famous gun designs of all time.  It retains it's original factory blue finish which shows wear and age that you would expect to see on a combat-used weapon of this vintage.  The areas showing the most wear are on the high edges, sideplate, and grip straps.  The factory original golden-yellow "straw" finish on the trigger, take-down lever, safety lever, magazine release button, and ejector shows wear but still shows some bright color, particularly in the protected areas.  As you can see from the pictures, it doesn't have any real eyesores, just good honest wear.  The bore in this Luger is in good shape overall.  It shows some light frosting in the grooves of the rifling but the lands are sharp and bright, and there is no visible erosion, bulges, or major imperfections.  All of the controls on this Erfurt are in perfect working order, and the toggle action is slick and locks up perfectly.  As mentioned before, this pistol comes with one of the original factory magazines which is numbered to this gun on the wood bottom.  The magazine is in very good condition overall and should function perfectly.  This WW1 Luger should be an excellent shooter as well as an investment for the next owner.
