This Springfield Armory 1903 is chambered in 30-06 with a 24" barrel, and a 3 digit serial number.
Historically, the Springfield 1903 was adopted by the US Army to replace the 1899 Krag, and served as the standard Infantry rifle until 1936, when it was replaced by the M1 Garand. There were over 1.5 million of these rifles built, but this rifle is one of the earliest and finest examples available.
This rifle is serial number 788, and is quite literally the rifle that is used as an example of low serial number examples in "The Springfield 1903 Rifles" by Lt. Col. Williams S Brophym, a copy of which is also included in the sale of this historic rifle. Photos of the inside and exterior of the book can be seen at the end of the photos.
This rifle is a part of a Springfield Military Rifle collection, that was placed on consignment with us. As I post this, I realize that I do not have any photos of the entire rifle, overall, so I will get that photographed soon and update the listing as soon as I have those photos. As of 10/22/2019, the rifle has been in our store for about a month now, so the owner has dramatically reduced the asking price. We've dropped $1,000 from the previous price of $4,699.00, and the asking price is now $3,699.00.
Please note: Being a very early production 1903, the owner has pointed out that this rifle has the same issue many of the early 1903's have, and we would not reccomend running contemporary ammunition through it.
