Description:
SOLD PENDING FUNDS This Colt has been in a private collection for 35 years and is again available. It is a Wilbur Glahn (Colt Master Engraver 1919-1950) “C” engraved full coverage 1st generation Colt Single Action Army revolver SN# 356464. It is in a very scarce chambering for a Colt SAA; .357 Magnum with a 4.75” barrel. It was manufactured in 1938 and shipped to Emmons-Hawkins Hardware Co. located in Huntington, West Virginia in August of 1938. This is verified/pictured in R.L. Wilson’s ‘Book of Colt Engraving’ on page 306. The Colt letter included dated1/17/1985 further substantiates that is was a factory engraved SAA in .357 Magnum caliber but no further information was available in 1985 as the Ledger book was lost or stolen circa 1981. This Colt SAA is also pictured in another major reference book “A Study of the Colt Single Action Army Revolver” by Graham, Kopec & Moore pages 106, 107, and 108. The original finish of Blue and Case hardened is rated at 98 % with the barrel mirror bright and all the mechanics in perfect working order. The case hardened finish on the hammer was a special order feature. This was part of the Raymond H. Vanyek collection and during the compiling of the two above mentioned reference books is shown with Carved Pearl grips where as now it has carved Ivory grips. R.H. Vanyek was known for switching grips around on his SAA’s and the actual grips are shown on page 94 of Graham, Kopec and Moore’s book on serial number 319573 (another SAA in the Vanyek collection). Included with this rare Colt SAA is a carved Heiser holster making this a unique and very desirable rig. All the original paper work associated with the purchase of this firearm along with the Colt letter, original advertisement and the two reference books is included. This offering has it all: Master Colt factory engraved; rare caliber; original condition; provenance in two major Colt reference books; and one of the last Wilbur Glahn engraved Colt Single Action Revolvers produced. This will be the “Center Piece” in any firearm collection and a super investment. Please see my other listings for more collectable firearms
