Description:
REDUCED FOR QUICK SALE - What a nice old Colt Hammer Double Barrel.  It was universally acclaimed during its short time of production as being the finest American side by side made, even superior to the Parker of the same era.  This shotgun reeks of quality.  Its damascus 30 inch barrels have excellent bores and chambers, which is quite unusual for a side by side of this era.  Wood is solid and excellent for a firearm this old with only very minor handling marks.  The original case color has turned to silver on the action and hammers, with a very pleasing patina lacking any pitting.  This shotgun appears totally original, and from looking at the screw heads no one has been into the action during its 133 year existence.  This would be an incredible firearm to furnish to a quality restorer for a full restoration - or keep it just the way it is.  The barrels have a dolls head extension and in comparing to other model 1878 Colt firearms I do not see this feature.  While it appears to be a so called field grade, with no engraving or checkering, etc. I think the extension may mean special order as it is no doubt a more expensive lockup feature.
