Description:
This is one of the hardest Winchester Model 61's to find in any condition, a Model 61 with an octagon barrel chambered in .22 WRF caliber.  This particular example is serial number 3010 and was made in the very first year of production, 1932.  The Winchester Model 61 was only offered from 1932 till 1946 with an octagon barrel, and production was very limited.  They featured a repeating pump-action design with a 24" inch octagon barrel, a factory blue finish on all of the metal, a tubular under-barrel mounted magazine, and an American Walnut stock set with a grooved forearm.  The early production pre-WW2 guns can be identified by their small forearm, and in addition to the side of the barrel, the .22 WRF models were stamped on the lower front of the receiver "WRF".  The Winchester offered here is really a great piece overall.  It has been used, but certainly has been cared for and not abused.  It remains in all-original condition with the only modification to the gun consisting of a period sling stud installed in the buttstock, and the lower magazine band drilled for an upper sling stud (no longer present).  The original factory blue finish is still very much intact, showing light wear and aging to a brown/blue patina in some areas.  As you can see from the pictures, the rifle has a great patina to it typical of a used gun of this age.  All of the original factory stampings are crisp and clear on this gun.  The bore in this Model 61 is excellent, mirror-bright and still showing sharp lands and grooves in the rifling.  There is no visible pitting, erosion, bulges, or imperfections of any kind.  This Winchester has a great set of original sights on it consisting of a front blade with a brass bead, a two leaf barrel-mounted rear blade set, and a period tang-mounted peep sight behind the receiver.  These rifles came from the factory with the rear tang drilled and tapped, and the sight itself could have been factory-installed.  The original Walnut stock set on this Model 61 is in very good condition overall, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major dings/damage.  All of the stock hardware is original, intact, and in good condition, including the checkered steel factory buttplate.  This Winchester has a smooth and precise action, functioning 100% like the day it left the factory.  All of the controls on this rifle are in perfect working order, and we have no doubt that this Winchester would shoot just as reliably and accurately as the day it left the factory 87 years ago.  If you have been looking for one of these rare and sought-after Winchester Model 61's in .22 WRF here is your chance to get a handsome, all-original example at a great price.
