MERKEL 360/280SL SIDELOCK TWO BARREL SET ... 410 gauge & 28 gauge ... 410 barrels are 28", with 3" chambers, choked Full/Mod and marked "360SL" ... 28 gauge barrels are 28", with 2 3/4" chambers, choked Mod/IC and marked "280SL" ... Holland & Holland style ejectors ... Greener cross bolt ... LOP 14 5/8" ... drop b 1 1/4" ... drop heel 2 1/8" ... double triggers. Both barrels are marked "No. 2 of 100".
The engraver signed this powerful work on the left side "Knoth" in script. It features a finely detailed wooded scene of a hunting dog on point with 2 woodcocks on the left and on the right 4 quail in a field scene. Surrounding these scenes and covering the bottom of the receiver, trigger guard, break lever and forend hardware is fine scroll pattern with scallop borders.
Each barrel set has its own splinter forearm to match the straight grip stock made of luxury grade oil finish English walnut. The double key lock, take down luggage case is of pebble grain leather with corner protection and brass hardware.
The Merkel box, numbered to the gun completes this offering.
