Description:
Very nice example of a lst yr production 700 BDL made in Oct 1962. Chambered in 222 Rem; only 624 BDL's were produced in 222 in 1962 the year that 700's were introduced. They lst appeared in catalogues around June of that year so this came off production just a few months later.
Although not visible (because of the Leupold/Redfield type scope bases) these early guns had a provision for a stripper clip carried over from the War years.
Collectors have come to call these early guns "Carbines" as they came from the factory for a short time with 20" barrels and as such are somewhat rare esp in the more obscure and less common cals.
Front and rear sites (readily available) removed and missing. Light loss of blue under where front sight was located but metal is pretty much in exceptional condition. Correct factory wood stock with fleur de lis factory checkering has some nicks to the hard finish (these pre dated the later thick RKW finish) but no damage or cracks or meaningful flaws of any type. Screws are very good as is the floor plate which shows no meaningful signs of being carried.
Ser. # in the 29xxx range and date code EJ
Wood rated at 78%/ blue at 95%...even the floor plate and t. guard are almost completely free of hanlding marks
