#4936 Winchester 1876 OBFMCB rifle, 45/60WCF with Fine bore (about an 8 on a scale of 10) and tight, smooth action. Serial number 27XXX (1882) and being the best production year for this most scarce of the antique lever action Winchesters. It has the dealer markings from the famed Western dealer, J.P. Lower in Denver, Colo. stamped behind the three leaf Express sight which usually means it was sold by this gun shop, or at least was in for repair. The exterior of this massive, impressive big rifle has been professionally refinished on excellent metal, having 98% full matte’ blue remaining with some very thin swirls of case hardening remaining on the lever and hammer, buttplate has no remaining finish and does have some light pitting on the heel of the plate (see photos). The original wood is very decent with just very minor scrapes, small dents, and no chips or large slivers; much better than average, but it does have a partial stress crack on the left side of the comb. It probably should be noted that the 45/60WCF round is the easiest of the four calibers of the Model 1876 to reload, and “cowboy action” ammunition is available both on the Internet from several reloaders, or can be easily made from 45/70 brass. This really is a VERY handsome Old West rifle and you will go to many, many gun shows to find a better looking’76, especially one with a fine bore at anywhere near this price.
