SOLD!!! Excellent condition to near mint antique US Model 1884 Trapdoor Springfield Cavalry Carbine in .45-70 caliber. Mechanically functions fine and tight. Lock is marked “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD” with the American eagle. Breech block is marked “MODEL 1884”. Barrel has “VP” and eagle head proofs. Guaranteed original carbine, not a cut-down rifle, and has correct original “C” marked Buffington rear sight and saddle ring/bar. Serial number 459xxx, Dating it to 1889. Metal finish is original blue showing some wear to light brown and gray patina on the barrel and triggerguard. Breech block has strong original case colors. Bore is very good and bright with strong rifling and a little pitting. Stock very lightly refinished with beautiful color and grain. Left side of wrist has a nice 1889 dated SWP inspector cartouche. Underside of wrist has a nice “script P inside circle” cartouche. Carbine is complete with correct original three-piece cleaning rod set and ruptured case extractor that store in the butt trap. Also complete with correct original front sight hood. An excellent example of a US Model 1884 Trapdoor Springfield Carbine.
