BREECH Load BELGIAN Antique POCKET PISTOL
Mid-19th Century HIDEOUT Carry Gun in .50
Here we present a small antique Percussion Pistol, made circa 1841 in Liege, Belgium. This small type of pistol was very popular from the 18th and into the 19th Centuries, in Europe, as well as the colonies. They could be easily stowed in a pocket or in the case of a woman, a fur muff or purse. They were of course made primarily for self-defense, especially in cities or traveling around the countryside.
This specimen features a very nice twist pattern barrel, which turns off of the frame for loading. This was advantageous to the user as shoving a ball with a ramrod via the muzzle was quite difficult. Loading from the breech allowed a larger ball to be used, improving the gas seal and making this diminutive pistol more efficient. This pistol also has a nicely checkered grip and engravings.
The overall condition is very good. The original twist pattern on the barrel is still visible. The markings are clear. The wood grip is in very good shape. The bore is smooth and dark. The action is excellent.
