Description:
Straight from the family of the veteran that brought it back to the States after WW2, this is a very nice all-original SA Dagger, scabbard, and leather hanger.  The SA (abbreviation) or Sturmabteilung was a paramilitaryanization of Nazi Germany founded in 1921 by Hitler while in Munich.  Otherwise known as the "Brown Shirts" or "Stormtroopers" by the population at the time, the SA was instrumental in helping Hitler rise to power.  The SA  protected Nazi Party marches, speeches, and meetings, while also intimidating opponents thru physical force.  Each member of the SA was assigned a membership number and was awarded a SA dagger.  While the SA had been reduced in numbers and were limited in power by the time of WW2, these SA daggers were very much sought-after by American troops looking for war trophies to take home.  This particular example was made by the rare maker "Remeve", rating a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10 with ten being the rarest.  It is in good condition overall and complete with the original scabbard and leather hanger strap.  The handle and fittings are in good condition and have not been cleaned or polished.  The nickel silver fittings show a nice aged patina, and the wooden handle is free from any cracks, chips, or repairs, showing only some minor handling marks.  The enameled SA button is still intact with nice original paint, and the Nazi party eagle inlaid in the center of the grip is is in excellent condition.  You will see that the crossguard is marked on the reverse with the "gruppe" marking of the SA member that owned this dagger "Nrh", which stands for Niederrhein.  All of this dagger's components are all nice and tight together with no wiggle.  The blade on this SA has met the same fate as many others, the G.I. whom captured it likely sharpened it.  Luckily, whomever sharpened it did not mess with the tip of the blade nor did they mess up the maker's mark or "Alles fur Deutschland" logo.  As you can see from the pictures, the "All for Germany" (in German) logo still has all of the factory darkening intact.  The "Remeve" maker's logo is also in excellent condition, crisp and dark.  The original scabbard is in very good condition, free from any dents, cracks, or missing pieces.  The nickle silver throat and protective tip are nice and tight to the scabbard, with the original screws still intact.  These fittings are a perfect match in patina to the dagger fittings of the same material.  The scabbard body itself was originally anodized brown from the factory, but appears to have been period over-painted with brown paint by the SA member to freshen it up or perhaps cover some scratches.  It is certainly the proper original paint that was used on the later-production scabbards when they quit anodizing them.  The scabbard comes with an original leather hanger strap fastened around the top of the throat.  All in all, this is a nice original example of the famous SA dagger from a rare maker that would be a great addition to any militaria collection.
