Description:
This WW2-production "AC44" Nazi P-38 pistol in 9mm Luger was manufactured by Walther in 1944.  The Walther firm was instructed to use the "AC" code and a two digit date stamp instead of their name in an attempt to hide the pistol's origins in case it was captured.  The P-38 proved to be a very good combat sidearm for Nazi Germany that was much easier and cheaper to manufacture than the P-08 Luger.  Since the end of World War 2 the P-38 pistol has been a prized collectible and shooter here in the United States, with market values continually climbing each year.  This particular example is in good condition as a restored/refurbished pistol.  It was imported into the U.S. by the ATI firm in Rochester New York (marked on front grip strap) sometime after 1968, at which point it was likely refurbished/restored.  During the restoration the barrel assembly and locking block were replaced with WW2 Mauser-made parts and re-numbered to match the rest of the pistol.  All of the other parts of this P-38 appear to be original to the gun.  The pistol was then stripped and refinished with a nice blue that is a close match to the original factory blue finish.  This was apparently done without any buffing or polishing as all of the original factory stampings and Nazi Waffenamts are clear and crisp, and there are no rounded edges that should be sharp.  As you can see from the pictures, this is a good looking P-38 that is more than presentable.  The slide shows some very light pitting in places but nothing that sticks out as an eyesore.  The bore is excellent, mirror-bright with sharp rifling throughout the barrel.  There are no visible imperfections in the bore whatsoever.  The original Bakelite grips on this Walther are in excellent condition as well, free from any cracks, chips, or repairs.  Both grips only show some minor handling marks, and both sides are nice and tight to the grip frame.  All of the controls on this P-38 are in perfect working order, including the safety/de-cocking lever.  The action on this Walther is slick and precise, and it locks into battery perfectly.  This pistol comes complete with one factory original magazine in perfect working order.  It is marked with the proper Walther firm Waffenamt of "Eagle 359" on the spine.  We have no doubt that this P-38 will function just as well today as the day it left the factory 75 years ago, and would be the perfect choice for someone who wants an original WW2 P-38 that they can enjoy at the range without worrying about hurting it's collectible value.
